Big Draw at Manchester Art Gallery
6
& 7 October 2007
As part of Manchester Art Gallery's activities for the Big Draw 2007, Claire Weetman was invited to create a drawing on the walls of the gallery's lift and to engage members of the public as they created an enormous drawing onto the windows of the gallery.
Claire was artist in residence in the gallery lift; members of the public briefly shared the artist's working space as she travelled up and down in the lift during the day.

The drawings produced reflected the environment outside the lift; the opposite lift shaft with its occupants; the stairs from all levels of the gallery, joining to create a never-ending staircase.
The public joined Claire in front of the gallery's large panoramic window, which takes in a section of Manchester's skyline. There, over 250 people used paint markers to draw sections of the skyline directly onto the glass; Adults and children alike enjoying the experience of drawing.
