Foundation Stage

To tie into the curriclum topic 'Ourselves', session 1 involved the children creating faces from a variety of objects. The children then made observational drawings of these faces, which were the basis for a collage.

Year 1

Observational drawings were produced from a 'Buckets and Spades' still life, for which the children chose the objects and placement. Looking carefully and drawing lightly were encouraged in both the first pencil drawing and a subsequent oil pastel work.

Building on the skills learnt from the still life drawings, the children used drawing, collage, wax resist and watercolour paints to create atmospheric paintings of waves and seascapes.

Year 2

Using a viewfinder to focus their observations, year 2 children drew objects with different properties to tie into 'What is it made of?' Pencil and oil pastel drawings developed their skills with tone and texture.

A second session worked on the earlier drawing skills and used collage to observe and replicate textures.
