Inspired Responses
12 January - 9 February
The Brindley Arts Centre, Runcorn

Claire Weetman and four other artists have been working in Secondary Schools and Colleges across Halton to inspire young people with an array of techniques to create art.

Claire has worked with Year 7 students in Wade Deacon High School, Widnes and Year 8 students in St Chad's Catholic High School, Runcorn. In each school, the students got to see the artist's work in the classroom and learnt how and where each piece was created. Claire then went on to share her techniques, these were then developed by the students and their teacher.

Wade Deacon projected videos of their classrooms onto white card and drew over the moving image. Using wire, they followed these lines to create 3D drawings of figures.

St Chads drew onto acetate using the school environment and photographs of pupils as reference. These were used as the basis to create 4 large drawings onto perspex, which hang in the gallery.

An example of Claire's work is exhibited alongside that of the students. These two pieces were created using video footage of the students entering their classrooms prior to the final workshop.
