Exhibtion Invite

18 May – 10 June
Gallery open Friday – Sunday, 12-5pm
Private View: Thursday 31 May, 6-9pm

Lines of Investigation is an exhibition of drawings and sculpture by four North-West based artists taking place at the Albert Dock Liverpool during May and June.  Sharing a common interest in line, space and movement, the artists will display and create new work especially for this exhibition.

This exhibition will give the visiting public a chance to see artists producing new work in the space, alongside images of previous drawings.

The exhibition opens on Friday 18 May, when the artists will begin making new work, the visiting public will be able to meet the artists during this process and view their other pieces.  A private view event takes place on Thursday 31 May, by which time, all of the works will be complete.

The Artists

Claire Weetman’s striking drawings onto glass will capture the shapes of visitors to the Albert dock as they pass by the gallery; outlines of figures become repetitive and distorted according to the person’s movement.  Claire will also be producing a new series of Perspex sculptures, specifically for this show.

Textile artist Cathy Rounthwaite is exploring the game of Cats Cradle.  For this show, she will create a visually exciting sculptural installation using lengths of fabric, suggesting the lines and shapes created during this playground game.

‘Feathers’ by Barbara Lamb evolved during a residency at Cammell Lairds shipyard from research into the cranes used there.  Based on this research, a kinetic work was produced that created random paintings which will be shown during Lines of Investigation.

Dave Bixter’s work focuses on the nature of drawing and the simple act of mark-making.  Dave will be exhibiting a selection of his abstract, repetitive drawings.  These images use simple shapes that follow and record the natural movement of the artist’s body through space and time.  Dave will be creating new drawings especially for this space.
