The final crossing
Runcorn Bridge
February 2008

To complete her series of string sculptures, Claire Weetman ventured out onto Runcorn Bridge on 16th February 2008.

The string measures the width of the river Mersey at the point where the Runcorn bridge crosses, with labels attached at either end recording the time, date and location. In this instance, a further label is included to show how the Manchester ship canal cuts through the river.

The 400m of string used in this work will now be coiled into a column, which will reach 3 meters in height and will be displayed at The Brindley arts centre, through April and May as part of 'Tidal, Markmakers exploring the Mersey'

Many thanks to Cathy Rounthwaite, Barbara Lamb, Jane Copeman and Louise Hesketh for their assistance in documenting this event.
