On arriving at Pudong Airport, the first thing that struck me was a series of metal disks embedded into the floor with two contra-directional arrows, one of them lit green, pointing my way to the exit.  This feeling of being guided through the city stayed with me throughout my stay; where I should queue to get on to the metro; which way to go to interchange trains; how do I get out; which way is home?

Responding to this I decided to collect photographs of these arrows, loading them onto an online blog - a vital way of feeling connected to people whilst far from home, and providing a snapshot of the feelings of orientation and disorientation within this megalopolis.  The photographs offer glimpses of the city and it's surroundings, but thwart the viewer's attempt to understand the city, by cutting much of the context out of the frame.
