Metal is a multi-disciplinary arts organisation based across the UK; in Liverpool, Southend-on-Sea and Peterborough. We work with many different kinds of artists in a supportive role providing; residency and studio space and programming a wide variety of events, publications, exhibitions, performances as well as workshops and discussion events. In Liverpool, for the past 3 years, we have been hosts of the Liverpool Art Prize, an annual exhibition and award open to a Liverpool based artist. For the prize in 2012 we added a new residency based award open to any artist based across the NorthWest region of England to help expand and grow the prize and to complement our existing work and reputation as a creative organisation that supports artistic process . This was a new partnership with the University of Shanghai and in return we received here the prizewinners of the John Moores Painting Prize China during the month of September.

The inaugural winner of this prize in the UK was Claire Weetman, chosen for her multi-media approach to making work and an exciting creative process which relies heavily on her environment and by the interaction people have with her work. Metal is an organisation that supports the creative process and we believe that the sharing and nurturing of an artist’s practice is something integral to the continuation of an exciting and inspirational art world.
